Tony Lucca Plugs In For New Album And Fall Tour

Tony Lucca may not have been much taller than his dad's classic '73 Aston Martin acoustic when he learned to play the guitar as a very young boy. Since those youthful days of growing up near Detroit's legendary music foundations, he's been known throughout his career as a soulful, acoustic crooner; someone who would occasionally sit behind the piano to expertly play a ballad or pick up an electric guitar for a funkier sound when the vibe was right.

However, as Lucca set out to record his sixth studio album, 'Come Around Again' (available on iTunes), he made a decidedly conscious choice to become even more plugged in - both literally and figuratively. From the sassy single "Foxy Jane" to the introspective "Givin' It All Away," he uses music and lyrics to explore the various moods of rock.

Longtime listeners of Lucca's music will likely find this change an appropriate next step as the singer and songwriter seeks to expand his musical talents in his studio recordings. New fans could hear 'Come Around Again' as a fitting introduction to Lucca's 10+ years of professionally creating and self-producing his own albums and EPs.

In either case, he hasn't completely abandoned the folk-pop sound for which he is so widely known. Lucca says that '73 Aston Martin is "still part of the harem to this day."

Audiences will be more than satisfied with his collection of songs and guitars as he takes the road this fall.

TONY LUCCA IMPRESSES SARA BAREILLES & JOSS STONE

As singer-songwriter Tony Lucca prepares to release his independent album 'Come Around Again' next month, he's caught the eye (and ears) of famous fans.

Sara Bareilles, known for the hit "Love Song", confessed to CosmoGirl magazine that she was obsessed with the Mickey Mouse Club and Lucca, one of the show's popular cast members.

"I wrote letters to Tony Lucca--I would have given my right arm for a letter back," Bareilles tells the magazine in the September 2008 issue. MMC has been off the air for more than a decade, but like any fan, she clearly remembers--and still proclaims--that teenage celebrity crush.

Joss Stone, another singer-songwriter phenomenon, attended one of Lucca's shows earlier this year. Motivated by his energy and presence, she surprised fans by sharing the stage with her gifted male counterpart. When invited by Lucca to join him for a song, the two sang together while Lucca played guitar, improvising like a skilled duo.

In both cases, Lucca is humbled and encouraged by the interest he's received from his peers, whether for his past or present offerings: "any musician would appreciate attention from talented artists he admires," says Lucca.

There's no doubt he'll be earning even more attention from listeners as he continues touring and when 'Come Around Again' makes its September debut.

Tony Lucca

Tony Lucca is well-known by many for performing with Britney, Justin and Christina on the 90s version of "The Mickey Mouse Club." He was even interviewed and featured in last year's "E! True Hollywood Story" about the kids involved, particularly those aforementioned names. But fast-forward to 2008, and you'll find Lucca very much beyond his Mouseketeer days.

Currently on tour promoting his brilliant stage show, Lucca has cultivated a 10-year solo career as a gifted musician. His rich vocal quality can range from velvet to grit with seemingly little effort. He writes and sings with fervent honesty. His lyrics are provocative in every sense of the word : politically, emotionally and socially. In short, Lucca does what an artist is intended to do: his compositions expose everything within and around him, both beautiful and broken, and dare any listener to ignore his exceptional talents.

His current EP, 'Close Enough,' consists of five tracks recorded with just Lucca and his guitar in a single session. The blues-infused title track has stirred debate amongst audiences for its socio-political themes ranging from war to immigration; controversial subjects many musicians would step back from discussing. Lucca, however, holds up the mirror and asks, "tell me, is it hittin' close enough to home for you, yet?" Also on the EP is the slightly tongue-in-cheek "True Story," an uncensored tale of Lucca's journey into adulthood. Tinged by a country music vibe, the song describes his life from the mischievous days of being a teenaged Disney performer to becoming a conscientious man and artist. In the end, Lucca determines with mature certainty: "it takes the time it takes to get it right."

As L.A.-based Lucca hits the road with singers Joe Firstman (Carson Daly's band leader) and Brian Wright, he has become a mainstay on the tour circuit and in his L.A., Midwestern, and NYC stomping grounds. Already armed with a reputation for captivating crowds with the sheer power and energy of his voice and stage presence, he recently sold out the popular NYC venue, Joe's Pub, entirely on his own merit.

If he's close enough to you this summer (tour dates below), don't miss Lucca on the Firstman Family Affair tour with guest appearances from Carson Daly in select cities.

The EP 'Close Enough' is available now on iTunes. The new album 'Come Around Again' due to be released Fall 2008.
