Ryan Adams Announces Hiatus

From RollingStone.com:

"Ryan Adams and the Cardinals are going their separate ways, the prolific singer-songwriter writes in a long, long blog post. Adams proclaims that the band’s tour-ending show in Atlanta will be “my last venture with the band and i am grateful for the time we have had and maybe someday we will have more stories to tell together.” The Cardinals have served as Adams’ backing band from 2005’s Cold Roses to last year’s Cardinology. “I am however ready for quieter times as i think it is very evident i am struggling with some balance and hearing issues.”

In fact, Adams blames his ear problems for “false” reports that he’s been intoxicated during concerts. “People accusing me of not being sober when i am suffering tremendous pain and nausea from my inner ear symptoms,” Adams blogs, stating all the reasons why he’s going on hiatus for a little bit. “I am excited to step away. i lost more than anyone will ever know (hearing, someone i loved, my sense of dignity, a never ending losing battle with stage fright.” Adams also promises not to blog anymore, as he needs a private life that is his own.

Despite Adams’ threats of hiatus, it was reported just last month that Adams was already hard at work on the Cardinology follow-up, tentatively titled Dear Impossible. Getting Adams to stop recording seems more impossible than anything else, given his bottomless vault of unreleased material, but we’ll take him at his word. Adams is keeping himself busy as a fledgling author with two books: his 286-page Infinity Blues is due out in April and another book is in the pipeline (Adams says “i LOVE writing….yay!”)"

Ryan Adams- The Alternate Easy Tiger

Ryan Adam's Easy Tiger was released on June 26, 2007, and never one to just rest at that, he also recorded an entirely alternate version of the album, along with a couple alternate versions of songs from Cold Roses. It is often reffered to as the "Curtain Of Lights" version because the music videos of these songs that made the rounds were all recorded in front of a, you guessed it, curtain of lights. All songs were recorded in Avatar Studios in NYC, except for "Halloween Head", which was recorded live on 6-22-07 in Ontario.

01. Goodnight Rose
02. Two
03. Everybody Knows

Happy Birthday

November 5th was two of my favorite artists birthday's. Gram Parsons would have turned 61 yesterday had he still been alive, and Ryan Adams turned 33. Is it just a coincidence these two have the same birthday, or was it part of God's master plan? Both have similar musical styles, as well as both of them being under appreciated and misunderstood at times. One big difference is that Ryan thankfully has seemed to beaten the demons that sadly took Gram from us far too soon. The following is a show at the Seattle Pop Festival of Gram with his band, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and I have also included a couple MP3's of Ryan covering Gram at the bottom of the post. Take some time out to appreciate these two amazing and talented artists.

This and that

Last night I was at the Ryan Adam's show in Iowa City, and it was a blast. Night and day difference between last night and the show in Minneapolis. I enjoyed both, in different ways, but last night Ryan was in top form. He was engaging, he was crazy, and he was passionate about the music. He informed the crowd he is in the middle of quitting smoking, which might explain why he was so hyper, and I am glad he has taken that step. One thing that is frustrating about going to a Ryan Adam's concert are the idiot fans that insist on ignoring any semblance of common sense. It really isn't that hard to go to a concert, sit and enjoy it for a couple hours and not shout out things constantly. Then again, common sense is a dying thing these days, but it's just frustrating trying to enjoy a concert when the person in back of you insists on yelling out "Whiskeytown!!!" and "Stars Go Blue!!" and singing along with the harmonies in quiet parts of the song (Peaceful Valley). But, thankfully things like that are minuscule compared to the show Ryan put on, which blew me away. I hope he continues down the path he is on, which is just blowing off so called hecklers in the crowd, and realizing 99% of the people there are there to see him, and enjoy him, and not be jerks for their own amusement. Can't wait to see him on concert again, and I recommend anyone who hasn't seen him to do so as soon as humanly possible, he is an amazing artist live, better than in studio in my opinion, which isn't happening with many artists these days.

Ryan Adams- State Theater 9/27/07

Wow, I didn't realize when I bought a ticket to last nights show I'd be at one of the most controversial Ryan Adam's shows of the year. Anyone interested in reading all the criticism of last nights show, click here. I feel the need to give an alternate point of view of the show as well, as I enjoyed it thoroughly. Now, I must preface this by saying this was my first Ryan show, and I have been a fan for a few years and have seen many a fan post on various message boards about the disappointing performances of Ryan. I went in to the show really having no expectations because of that reason, so maybe I was ready to be pleased with any type of show he put on. But, I really enjoyed what I did see. A little short? Maybe, but nothing so extreme that I'm whining about the money I spent. I knew going in that I could get an hour long show, or I could get a 3 hour show, either way I was prepared. I was especially amused by the fans booing after the show when they realized there was to be no encore. Either they haven't been Ryan fans for very long, or they are just idiots. You can't be a Ryan fan expecting anything from a show except controversy, so why be surprised when you get it? Don't spend the 50 bucks if you aren't prepared for a hit or miss concert. I left the show thrilled that I saw my favorite artist put on a great show, and looking forward to the Iowa show on Monday that I will be attending. All in all, I consider the night to be a success, regardless of what the media portrayed.

Ryan Adams- 2007 Shows

Ryan Adams recently finished up the first leg of his 2007 world tour, and will start the second leg on August 15th, in Auckland, New Zealand. Thanks to his willingness to allow his shows to be recorded, fans are able to re-live their favorite shows, as well as hear others they weren't able to attend. Here are some of his best shows (in my personal opinion) from the 2007 tour thus far.

Ryan Adams- 48 Hours

These songs were recorded shortly after the release of "Gold" in 2001. For some reason, most of the songs were not included on any official release, but this definitely ranks among the best Ryan Adams material out there.
